
Dr. Steve Merritt
Dr. Steve Merritt has been practicing veterinary medicine and surgery at Siouxland Animal hospital since its establishment in May 1994. Dr. Merritt graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. He is a board member of the Siouxland Humane Society and his main veterinary interest is orthopedic surgery.
He is married with 2 children and his pets include 4 cats and 2 dogs. His hobbies include motorcycle riding and driving his sports car on the weekends.
Dr. Patrick Saulsbury
Dr. Patrick Saulsbury graduated from Iowa State University in 1991. He, with Dr. Merritt, built and began practicing at Siouxland Animal hospital since opening its doors in May of 1994. His primary interests in veterinary medicine are soft tissue and orthopedic surgery and oncology.
Dr. Saulsbury is married with 3 daughters and has a menagerie of pets including dogs, cats, goats, and horses. His other interest include paleontology and working in his aronia berry farm.
Dr. Jacey Johnson
Dr. Jacey Johnson graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, with special interests in Ultrasonography, Internal Medicine, and Behavior. Following graduation, Dr. Johnson practiced small animal medicine in the Chicago area for 2 years.
She and her husband are excited to return to their hometown of Sioux City along with their 3 young sons, and 3 furry children – a dog, a cat, and a horse.
Dr. Matt Samuelson
Dr. Matt Samuelson joined our practice on June 1st, 2018, after graduating from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He’s a Sioux City native and excited to return to his hometown.
Dr. Jaclyn Samuelson
Dr. Samuelson is a 2020 graduate of Oklahoma State CVM. She has always wanted to become a small animal veterinarian, and is most interested in the internal medicine aspects of practice. In her free time, Dr. Samuelson loves spending time outdoors in many capacities, especially with her three fur-babies.
Dr. Olivia Greenwell
Dr. Olivia Greenwell is 2022 graduate from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She became interested in veterinary medicine at the age of 5 watching her grandfather and uncle practice large animal medicine. Her primary interests are in the dentistry, emergency medicine and hospice care. She is excited to return to her hometown with her English Bulldog, Mack. In her free time, she enjoys exploring local restaurants and visiting the family farm.
Carol Nielsen – Office Manager
Carol has been managing SAH for 6 years. She is originally from Paulina, Iowa. Her interests include quilting and visiting car shows.
She and her husband enjoy spending time with their 2 children and 2 grandchildren.

Because you have a busy life, we provide extended hours to better accommodate most schedules.
We’re open Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. While we are closed on Sundays, we are on-call 24/7 for an existing-client pet emergency.
